Convert a whole CSV of points

Drop in a spreadsheet of points saved as CSV. Get State Plane and UTM for every row, or lat/long back from State Plane. It all runs in your browser, and your file never leaves your device.

What your file should look like

A first row of column names helps, like name, lat, lon or Point,Northing,Easting. We guess the columns from the names, and you can change them above. Commas, tabs and semicolons all work. Lat/long can be decimal (40.29) or DMS (40 17 24 N). If a longitude is missing its minus sign, we read it as West, since this tool is for the US.

Every original column is kept. New columns are added at the end.

What gets added

Lat/long → State Plane: zone code, zone name, northing, easting and unit, plus UTM zone, northing and easting in meters. Lat/long is treated as NAD 83(2011) unless you tick the WGS 84 box.

State Plane → lat/long: latitude and longitude in NAD 83(2011), in decimal degrees to 8 places. You must pick the zone and the unit your numbers are in.

This uses the same math as our coordinate converter, which we checked against NOAA's NCAT tool (within 0.003 ft).

Privacy and limits

Your file is read and converted inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Big files work, but over about 200,000 rows your browser may slow down. "Each point's own zone" uses simplified zone lines, so a point very close to a zone line could get the zone next door. For a project, pick one zone for the whole file.
