NTRIP setup: DJI Phantom 4 RTK

The Phantom 4 RTK uses the DJI GS RTK app on its controller. Network RTK uses the controller (not a Base stationA GNSS receiver sitting still on a known spot. It figures out how wrong the satellite signals are right now and shares that as corrections.Full definition) to reach an NTRIP server, so the controller needs internet from Wi-Fi or a DJI 4G dongle with a SIM.

Steps

  1. Make sure the controller is linked to the drone and has internet.
  2. In DJI GS RTK, go to Camera View and open the RTK settings.
  3. Turn RTK on and set the RTK service type to Custom Network RTK.
  4. Enter your provider's host, PortA number that tells your device which "door" on the caster server to use. For NTRIP it's often 2101.Full definition, account, password and Mount pointOne specific correction stream on a caster, like one channel on a radio. Each one comes from a certain station or network setup.Full definition, then save.
  5. Wait for the controller to connect to the NTRIP server. The RTK status icon at the top of Camera View shows when it's working. Look for FixThe best RTK status. The receiver has finished its math and your position is good to about an inch.Full definition before you fly a mapping mission.
Before you start, get five things from your provider: the CasterThe internet server that hands out correction streams. Your rover logs in to it, like tuning into a radio station.Full definition host (server address), port, username, password and mount point (the correction channel). What these mean. Find them on each provider page.

What fix to expect

Your status should go from Single (no CorrectionsLive info from a base station about how far off the satellite signals are, so your rover can cancel out the error.Full definition) to Float (corrections coming in, still settling) to Fix (about an inch). Only start mapping or measuring on Fix. Fix vs float explained.

Common gotchas

  • Wrong mount point or typo in the host: wrong mount point.
  • Error 401 means the username or password was rejected: fix a 401.
  • VRSVirtual reference station. The network blends nearby stations to create a pretend base right next to you, which keeps the baseline short.Full definition mount points need your position sent to the network (GGAA short message your rover sends with its rough location. VRS and nearest-station streams need it to know where you are.Full definition): VRS with no GGA.
  • Stuck in FloatA middle RTK status. Corrections are coming in but the math isn't finished, so you're only good to about a foot.Full definition or old corrections: stuck in float · high age of corrections.
  • Far from the nearest base adds error: baseline distance tool.
